Toon Barmy at BALTIC

The BALTIC centre for contemporary art have announced a football themed dance exhibition entitled "DANCE THE GOAL" to coincide with their official opening on July the 13th.

The show is the brainchild of choreographer/dancer Andy Howitt, the piece with local school children from the John Spence Community High School in North Shields.

The idea is to recreate, in dance, the Peter Beardsley's goal against Portsmouth in the 1984 F.A. Cup, and David Ginola's beauty against European rivals Ferencvaros in 1996.

"The Beardsley goal was a classic that makes very good dance" says Howitt.

"The goal has a beginning, a middle and an end. There's a fantastic climax when Beardsley punches the ground".

"The Ginola goal was also a fantastic piece of skill. The supporters went mad when he scored that one. They treated him like a saviour when it hit the back of the net".

Howitt believes that "Dance the Goal will be truly extraordinary. It will be a really bizarre event".
